Can you believe I have been living in Bethesda for almost 1yr and 3mo (1yr in my studio and just over 3mo since living with Ben) and I have never been to the Bethesda Farmers Market?!
Well, this past weekend was the first weekend of Spring — according to the calendar that is — it sure didn’t feel like it! And that called for an outing to the farmers market :-). I love the idea of farmers markets (fresh food, from local farms) and Ben used to go to the Takoma Park one all the time. We ate breakfast early, and brought our coffee with us, so that we could get there before everything was gone.
My phone (HTC Incredible 4G LTE) sometimes takes crappy photos and is kinda on the fritz — I mean it is almost two years old — so I took these photos with Ben’s iPhone 4S. Enjoy what we saw . . .

Well – you know my love for food trucks (for more on that click here and here). We didn’t eat anything there, but I certainly couldn’t pass up a good photo of the Culinary Nomad truck.

We didn’t get anything from Pinch Dumplings either, but I liked the whole chalkboard sign, and their food looked promising so I wanted to note it for next time.

French pastries — how could you go wrong?! I got a pain au chocolat that Ben and I split when we got home.
sorry for the blurriness on this one

Handcrafted salami, charcuterie and sausages
Ben likes beef jerky, so we tried the artisan salambi and nom-nom-noms was it OMG delicious!

Fresh Crunch Pickles
Website | Facebook | Twitter {@FreshCrunch} | Yelp
They have cucumbers, ginger, carrots, beets and cabbage pickled in brine.
Apparently there’s a big plastic cucumber/pickle that people pose with, and stuff . . . so I took a picture of it, naturally.
All Things Olive
Website | Facebook | Twitter {@AllThingsOlive} | Yelp
They have some quite lovely extra virgin, herb-infused and citrus infused olive oils, wine vinegars and tapenades.
Ben tried the middle olive oil in the first photo — the Robbins Family Farm Ascolano California Extra Virgin Olive Oil. And in the 2nd photo he tried the Calolea California Blood Orange Olive Oil. The woman there (Lynn?) said the blood orange olive oil tastes great in brownie mix instead of the vegetable oil that’s called for — she said it makes it more decadent!
Rita’s Crepes
{No Website} | Facebook | Yelp | Urbanspoon | Foursquare
Fresh to order sweet and savory crepes using local ingredients.
We didn’t try Rita’s Crepes, but I pass the stand on Woodmont Ave all the time, so I had to snap some photos.
Grandma Vera’s Empanadas
Website | Facebook | Twitter {@GrandmaVeras} | Yelp
Quality baked goods and Latin inspired prepared foods
I got chicken, Ben got beef empanadas. Verdict: the beef were definitely better!
