Six Ways to Have a ShamROCKin’ St. Patrick’s Day

I love going all out for holidays! Now, since I am Jewish St. Patrick’s Day never really had a religious connotation for me, but it was always a fun day to dress up, drink (in college), eat green food / candy and the like.

So, without further adieu:
Six simple ways to have a shamROCKin’ St. Paddy’s Day (ha — great pun, right?!) 😉

1) Wear Something Green

Like a green tee shirt

What about green tights?

Or a cute green bow tie?

2) Get Glammed Up In Green

And by that I mean:

  • Put on some green nail polish

  • Perhaps dye your hair green (?)
  • Green lip stick too (?)
  • Or green face paint? … You can go full face face or a nice small green clover on your cheek 🙂

3) Eat or Make Something Green

Like a green dessert or other tasty treat … think white chocolate mint covered oreos or a DIY shamrock shake 🙂

I have a bunch of stuff on my St. Patrick’s Day Pinterest Board:

4) Go Out to Dinner or Happy Hour

Lots of restaurants, bars and pubs have St. Paddy’s Day specials, so prices are good (saving money FTW!) . . . and of course they often have a green-themed or some sort of holiday-related menu! Here in DC I always see signs for bar crawls and happy hours and lots of things in neighborhoods like Adams Morgan and U Street, well really though all over! Sounds like fun if that’s your thing 🙂

5) Run a 5k For Fun

Just like on Thanksgiving when people do the Turkey Trot or around Christmas when people do the Jingle Bell Runs (or whatever they are called), there are 5k runs happening in some cities on (or close to) St. Paddy’s Day!

6) Attend a St. Paddy’s Day Parade

Everyone loves a holiday parade, right! Growing up my neighborhood and schools used any excuse to put on a parade: New Year’s, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, 4th of July, Halloween, Christmas, probably more. I’m sure there’s a St. Paddy’s Day parade in your neighborhood or one nearby you can attend. If not, try finding one online to watch!

OK – now it’s your turn. I’d love to hear from YOU!

P.S. I did not mean to offend anyone by this post. I know this holiday may have religious significance for some. But everyone celebrates holidays differently. Please know that I respect that and know that for me this is just fun, though I understand that for you it has religious significance. Thank you.
